Description

Boulders Beach Penguin Colony. Just outside Simon’s Town, the Boulders Beach Penguin Colony beckons, providing a unique opportunity to observe African Penguins in their native environment. Nestled within a sandy cove adorned with large boulders, this sanctuary allows visitors to witness these endearing birds up close. It stands as one of the few places where these vulnerable creatures can roam freely in a protected natural setting. Originally home to just two breeding pairs in 1982, the colony has burgeoned to approximately 3,000 penguins, thanks in part to reduced commercial pelagic trawling in False Bay, increasing their food supply. Bordered by indigenous flora and the pristine waters of False Bay, this site offers a glimpse into the penguins’ natural world, sheltered by ancient granite boulders that have stood for millions of years. Cape Point – The Cape of Good Hope. Cape Point, designated as a World Heritage Site and protected Nature Reserve, stands as a unique oasis of natural splendor, celebrated globally for its diverse vegetation and abundant biodiversity. Although a part of the Cape of Good Hope, it isn’t the exact southern tip of Africa; it lies on the south-west corner of the Cape Peninsula, just south of Cape Point on its south-eastern edge. This section of the park teems with fynbos, housing a vibrant community of over 250 bird species, various mammals like buck, baboons, and Cape Mountain zebra. Visitors can enjoy numerous picnic spots, scenic trails for hiking or mountain biking, and secluded beaches with tidal pools. Beyond its natural beauty, the area holds profound cultural and historical significance, featuring monuments honoring early explorers such as Vasco da Gama and Bartolomeu Dias. For a satisfying lunch, the Two Oceans Restaurant presents an excellent choice. NB: The minimum age for this tour is 8 years old.
