Embark on an unforgettable seven-day expedition to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s towering peak, via the renowned Machame route. Immerse yourself in breathtaking panoramic landscapes and gain valuable insights into the rich culture and traditions of Tanzania from your knowledgeable Kilisherpas Travel guides. Evenings will be spent at cozy overnight camps, where you can witness the mesmerizing African sunsets. Your ascent will commence on the southern side of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, taking you through five distinct climatic zones – from the lush rainforests at the base to the glacial arctic regions at the summit. This remarkable journey is akin to traversing from the equator to the snow-capped Antarctica in just a week!

Itinerary
Arrival Day Arrival and Pick up
Upon landing at Kilimanjaro Airport, you’ll be greeted by our transfer driver and taken to your hotel in Arusha. Relax and enjoy the hotel amenities or explore the town at your leisure. In the late afternoon, meet with one of our Kilimanjaro guides for a briefing on your upcoming trek. Overnight at the hotel with dinner included.
Expedition Day 1 Machame Gate to Machame Camp
After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro National Park’s gate and begin your hike through the lush rainforest to Machame Camp (3,010m). Look for black and white colobus monkeys along the way. Overnight at camp.
Expedition Days 2-5 Climbing Higher
Over the next four days, gradually acclimatize as you trek across the Shira Plateau, up the Lava Tower, over the Barranco Wall, and towards Barafu Camp (4,640m). Each day involves acclimatization hikes to higher elevations before descending to camp for the night.
Expedition Day 6 Summit Attempt
Around midnight, wake for tea/biscuits and begin your summit attempt. After 5-7 hours, reach Stella Point (5,730m) on the crater rim. Another 1-2 hours leads to the roof of Africa – Uhuru Peak (5,895m)! After taking in the breathtaking views, descend to Mweka Camp (3,080m).
Expedition Day 7 Trek to Mweka Gate
After a farewell ceremony, descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Transfer to your hotel in Arusha for a celebratory dinner and overnight
Departure Day Airport Transfer and Departure
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport or you can opt to extend your East African adventure.
