- 100 10
Amboseli National Park is the second most popular park in Kenya with so much to see and enjoy. But sometimes visitors feel they want even more dedicated time here. Now, with our in-depth 3-day discovery safari, you’ll be able to experience all the park’s wildlife environments and have more opportunities to take in its impressive big game. And most impressive of all are Amboseli’s vast herds of elephants. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa, if not the world, for getting up close to these free-ranging giants. The population is so dense you are guaranteed sightings! How often do you get a promise like that in the wild? For 3 days you’ll explore the park on exciting game drives, but there will be plenty of time for relaxation as well. Please read over this tour description and let us know if you’d like to personalize your Safari tour in any way – we’re always here to help. At the tour’s end, we’ll usher you to the Madaraka Express for a comfortable train trip to Mombasa and the Kenya coast.
Day 1: Nairobi – Masai Mara
We’ll start early – your expert driver/guide will pick you up at 7:30 am from your hotel, residence or airport and begin our journey on the Nairobi/Mombasa Highway. As the day brightens, we’ll pass homesteads and Maasai herders along the way.
At Amboseli, we’ll enjoy the first of our game drives. You won’t have to look hard for the park’s signature landmark – renowned Mt. Kilimanjaro – the tallest peak in Africa. The great massif will frame your views looking south making a picturesque backdrop for the wildlife we’ll encounter.
You’ll see plenty of elephants, but you’ll also be looking for wildebeest, zebra, buffalo and gazelle. And there’s a good chance of spotting cheetah and lion. The park is not large, which only increases our chances of coming face to face with an exciting array of wildlife.
Day 2: A full day in the Masai Mara
We’ll be up early for our first game drive followed by breakfast. Then onto a mid-morning game drive. This will be our pattern for the day – eat, relax, go on a game drive. Repeat. Not a bad way to appreciate the wonders of this rich and diverse park. And if you wish to be even more active – less relaxing time, more game drives – just ask your guide and he will make it happen. At Natural World our goal to create the best safari experience for you. On your game drives through the park, you may notice a unique pyramid-shaped location – this is Observation Hill, the best elevation for vistas of Amboseli.
At the summit, you’ll be able to take in the park’s plains, lakes and stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. This is an ideal place to watch the elephants, buffalo and hippo foraging in the marshes below. From here you’ll also enjoy the bright diversity of birdlife in the wetlands. Look for pelican, goose, kingfisher and egret. Our visit here at Amboseli also provides an opportunity to meet some of the indigenous people of the area. If you’d like you can take an optional visit to a local Masai village to learn about their lifestyle and culture. Just ask your guide.
Day 3: Amboseli – Emali Train Station (100 km: Appr.1.5hours) SGR train to Mombasa
We’ll enjoy an early safari breakfast and set out for a short final game drive as we exit park. We have seen much of this popular park, its diverse wildlife environments and a great display of animals. You can consider yourself an experienced safari-goer! (please note that an early short exit game viewing drive is only possible if staying in lodges / tented camps inside the park ) As we exit the park areas on the way to the train station at Emali, you’ll be seeing your last views of Amboseli. However, on your upcoming train journey, you’ll be passing through both Tsavo West and Tsavo East for more park vistas and possibly wildlife viewing. Your driver/guide will bring you to the train station at Emali.
There, he’ll assist you with tickets and transfer to the Madaraka Express, the new high-speed train to Mombasa and the coast. Your first-class ticket is included with the tour, so enjoy the comfort of your air-conditioned compartment and reclining seat. The train’s route is positioned higher than the roadway and offers an elevated view of the parks. And with its large windows you’ll enjoy wonderful vistas of the passing landscapes. There’s also a buffet car for drinks and snacks, and clean restrooms for your convenience. In about 4 ½ hours you’ll arrive at the state-of-the-art train station in Mombasa.
Later proceed to Emali train station (100km from Amboseli) where you shall board the standard gauge Nairobi-Mombasa Train (Madaraka Express). 09:31am: Depart for Mombasa on the Madaraka Express Train with elevated country views through Tsavo West & Tsavo East national parks. 14:00pm: Arrive Mombasa train station where you shall be met by your transfer vehicle and driver. Transfer to your hotel or resort is also included – we’ll pick you up and bring you to your local hotel or resort in Malindi, Watamu, Diani, Mombasa and Kilifi beach.
